TRC successfully demonstrate their
developement of an Embedded Webserver over GPRS using Embedded Linux.
Total Remote Control have created a
complete embedded mobile system, that uses GPRS as the transport
medium, to provide secure and robust server facilities which can
be located at any location where a mobile signal can be received.
The system is based on an embedded
PC platform, running the Linux Open Source Operating System and
can facilitate complete server capabilities from any remote location
that has GPRS coverage.
The system platform has been created
for high level Telemedicine and Multi-media applications and prototype
products are now in the late stages of development.
Commercial Issues
Developing products based on a Linux
platform requires high level system and software engineering skills.
The route to prototype product can be somewhat extended, when compared
to an embedded XP platform.
However, once the obstacles have been
overcome, if the volumes are sufficient, then the costs of development
can easily be justified when the isssue of Operating System licences
are considered. Additionally, the comparable Linux platform can
be considerably smaller than the XP version and thus other costs,
such as that of Flash Memory, make the Linux option very attractive
if higher production numbers are concerned.
